Running a home business can often mean the lines between work and pleasure are easily blurred. To help keep my life In check I work my days through a schedule, I personally like to use the app timely so my clients and myself can book in appointments in set time slots to ease the pressure of booking everyone in myself. I then block out any times I need for life admin and I’m also sure to take some time one day a week to do something for myself. Why? I need a full cup to give a full cup. If I’m feeling overwhelmed and overworked the wheels quite quickly fall off and although my level of work dosnt drop my life around does and this in turn effects my mood, children, marriage and health/wellbeing. To keep everything running smoothly I need to maintain my health, fitness, happy kids/ husband and a tidy household.
I love being a boss mama and I feel so lucky to have built up a cliental where I can work 30 hours a week doing what I love and making a comfortable profit, all the while being present for my whanau. Especially considering my youngest child is still breastfed.
Im invested in my standard of work as I love the lifestyle that comes with it, I’m often asked if I would open a salon and I can’t predict the future but for now working from home and hours that work around my children are all I can ask for. I cant rate it enough, being able to take a hour or a day here and there is great, the flexibitily of being your own boss is definetly what keeps me balanced while raising 3 children under 10.
Wellbeing and working out. If I can’t get in at least 5 workouts a week I am horrible to be around, whatever a hangry version is of fitness, that’s me. I started getting into fitness while I studied beauty therapy in 2010 and ever since have loved going to the gym and using it as a time to block out the world, pump some endorphins and be a better human. Once I started having children I really started making the most of the gym as an escape for myself. I am currently part of a community called 808 house of training, this gym specialises in group training sessions similar to crossfit, incorporating zuu and other movements, that plus throwing in some crazy trainers who know their stuff, this has created a training hub for myself like no other that I can squeeze into a crazy schedule with some workouts being only a few minutes long and available on zoom chat I can maintain my fitness and wellbeing.
Finding the time to maintain my household. As I run my business from home, I won’t lie, I feel the pressure to keep my home clean and tidy. 3 kids make a mess. 1 husband makes a mess. A dog and a cat make a mess. To counter act this I have a little morning routine where I scoop up clothes, put on the washing and give the bathroom a wipe down, I will then feed the kids their breakfast and clean it as I go, feed the pets then vacuum the house while the kiddies brush their teeth and hair. Once the kids have been dropped off to school and kohanga, I grab a guilt free latte from the local cafe and make myself look human to start doing clients for 9:30am!
I literally run my life off my timely app schedule in hour blocks, down time dosnt really exist but I wouldn’t have it any other way, I’m very much an active relaxer and love the grind!
