What’s the difference between Mink and Silk lashes?
Lucy at Lashes by Lucy uses 2 types of lashes, silk and mink. Silk lashes are used individually 1 per lash.
These lashes are thicker individually (0.10-0.15mm wide) and have more of a structured look to them.
Mink lashes are a lot thinner, fluffier and lightweight for a realistic look. Being so thin and light (0.07mm) up to 6 mink lashes can be applied to 1 natural lash.
This achieves a full volume set, this is what we see on all Instagram models! Both silk and mink lashes come in a variety of curves and lengths to create your ideal look.
“I don’t usually wear makeup – will the lashes look to much for me?”
This is a common question I am asked by a range of women including brides, corporate workers, mothers and students.
Eyelash extensions are flexible!
As they are applied individually each certified lash tech will be able to create a look suited to your eye shape, natural lashes, look desired, age and budget.
Lashes can range from looking undetected and realistic all the way up the scale to full glam ready to party lashes!

How long do eyelash extensions last?
Each natural lash takes around 28 days to go through a full lash growth cycle.
It usually takes around 8 weeks for all lashes to have grown out and a fresh set of natural lashes to take place on your lash line.
In saying this, eyelash extensions grow out as your natural lashes do – so can last up to 6-8 weeks when a professional strength bonding agent glue is used and proper lash care is taken at home.
Lucy recommends booking in every 4 weeks to maintain your extensions.

Can I wear mascara with eyelash extensions?
Mascara is a big no!
Eyelash extensions achieve a full look unable to obtain with any mascara or lash serum!
If you would like a full glam look talk to your lash tech about getting that look done when you book in and go for a more volume look.
Mascara will clump eyelash extensions together and cause your natural lashes to be pulled as surrounding lashes grow out.
Mascara left on extensions can also cause bacteria to grow on the lashes and be very hard to clean off without damaging your extensions.
When is the best time to get lash extensions before an event?
The sooner the better!
Your natural lashes are growing every moment of the day and can start to grow out as soon as they are on.
That’s not to say they are all going to grow out over night.
This process does take 6 weeks however some of your natural lashes might be ready to shed a day or 2 or 3 after getting your look done.
It’s best to get lashes done for a special occasion as close to that occasion as possible to ensure they are perfect! Then you can enjoy them for the weeks to follow.
What if I react to the eyelash glue?
The bonding agents used to bond extensions to your natural lash are tested and certified, however they are also chemically based so there is still possibility you will react to the glue.
If you are worried and would like to test the glue out before your appointment, your lash tech will be more than happy to patch test some glue on your skin (either arm or behind the ear).
If after 24 hours no redness has occurred you’re in the clear! Book on in!
If you didn’t do a patch test and you do have an allergic reaction to the glue (redness, itchiness, swelling) inform your lash tech and she will remove eyelash extensions immediately with a de-bonding gel and seek medical attention.

Will eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?
When applied correctly by a certified experienced eyelash technician no damage will occur to your natural lashes.
It is key to take care of your lash extensions following home care and maintenance to ensure your lashes are not damaged in your care.
Eyelash extensions are delicate and will be bonded to your natural lashes for up to 8 weeks so avoid pulling, rubbing and picking at the extensions.
Try to keep lashes as dry as possible and comb them through with a spoolie as you need to.
Excessive friction (makeup application, eye rubbing, swimming, excessive activity can cause the extensions to become brittle and fall out, this will cause damage to tour natural lashes and an eyelash serum is highly recommended to maintain the quality of your natural lashes.
